Review

This page will cover some of the possible questions you might find in the Breadboard Curriculum Exam. It will also prompt some of the ideas that you should have covered in your learning journal.

I have broken the review up into each section covered on the website. Rather than give you practice questions I have put some key concepts you should understand in dot points. If you are not sure go back to the related page, watch the video, and if necessary go to the more resources website link at the bottom of each page.

General

Ensure you are familiar with all of the illustrations and schematic diagram images in the breadboard curriculum kits list

The Breadboard

  • Understand what the two coloured line on a breadboard indicate
  • Know how the tie points are connected both horizontally and vertically
  • Fault find example circuits to identify why they don’t work

The Resistor

  • Describe the function of a resistor in an electronic circuit
  • Identify a resistor value from colour codes
  • Use a resistor value to determine colour (to find a certain value)
  • Identify / draw the schematic diagram image

The Multimeter

  • Explain how to measure current and voltage in a simple LED circuit
  • Know the symbol for a multimeter being used as an ammeter and volt meter is a schematic diagram
  • Name four functions a multimeter is commonly used to diagnose circuit issues.

The LED

  • Explain why it is necessaries for a resistor circuit to include a resistor
  • Explain what a resistor is used for in electronic circuits
  • Know what would happen if an LED was reversed
  • Discuss some places you would find LEDs at home
  • Identify / draw the schematic diagram image
  • Understand the difference between series and parellel circuits

The Switch

  • Explain the function of a switch in an electronic circuit
  • Explain how a switch works
  • Identify / draw the schematic diagram image

The Diode

  • Explain the function of a diode in an electronic circuit
  • Know what would happen if the diode was revresed in an LED circuit

The Transistor

  • Explain why the transistor turned the LED on in the Finger Switch circuit
  • Identify / draw the schematic diagram image

The Capacitor

  • Explain the two common functions of a capacitor in electronic circuits
  • Identify / draw the schematic diagram image
